Community Update - Reliability improvements, Mentra Live, Displays

Hey everyone! We’ve been going high speed on software, apps, and hardware. This is a quick update about where Mentra is at and where we’re headed.
MentraOS
We’re really excited about the progress of the Mentra Store. We went from launching an app store to supporting a suite of 9 applications. We’re still focused on getting the basics right, so Mentra will continue to develop the basic apps that you use every day while enabling the developer/startup community to build all kinds of new apps.

The last few weeks, we’ve been focused on reliability. We heard the community feedback, and we’ve put reliability, testing, and software release cycles as our top priority. This has resulted in massive reliability improvements - captions “just work” now. The new version of the app will be dropping by August 29th, and we’ll ping the community when it’s out.
Translation is also massively improved with a new model. We’ve been using it daily in China, and it’s great. Try it out on the app store!
This fall, we’ll be adding to the store:
- Navigation - maps on your glasses
- Scroller - read Reddit, News, and social apps on your smart glasses
Third party apps are just about to drop! This fall, we’ll see third-party (non-Mentra) apps on the Mentra Store that include:
- Stocks + Crypto tracking dashboard
- Flashcards
- Reader app - read books, articles, etc. on your smart glasses.
Live
Mentra Live is making massive progress. It’s got a new HD camera, infinite battery enabled by a power connector, and estimated 43 grams WITH lenses. Mentra Live is set to be an incredible pair of smart glasses.
Preparing for the December launch, the team is working on a brand new website with a focus on Mentra Live.
That website launches September 1st. Stay tuned.
Nex
After our recent trip across China to finalize multiple components for Nex, we’ve made huge progress on the 3D design. Carl Allen, Mentra’s Head of Eyewear Design, came to Shenzhen to head up the next phase of Mentra Nex development. Things are still early and we have no set launch date yet, but we’re still expecting to launch Nex in the first half of 2026.

Our Nex hardware prototypes are running open source firmware and have now been successfully connected to MentraOS, running live captions.
Conclusion
Thanks everyone for your support. We’re dedicated everyday to ensuring that the next personal computer is open, community-controlled, and user-enabling. Our progress on the OS, apps, and hardware is getting us closer to that goal everyday. Make sure to join the mailing list to stay in the loop and Discord to join the conversation.
Best,
The Mentra Team
